Day 74 — Prototyping
Closing in on this week’s user tests
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars
It was a ton of fun putting this week’s work into action. I (mostly) avoided pointless social media and web searches and had a super productive day.
9 a.m — 9 p.m.
❏ Pick the right tools. Don’t use your everyday tools. They’re optimized for quality. Instead, use tools that are rough, fast, and flexible. (Read more on page 186 in Sprint.)
- I used Figma for design and prototyping. It was the first time I really put it to the test and man, did it shine. It combines all the best features that I had from Sketch, Invision, and Principle and puts it all together.
- I went from this:
- To this:
- To this (final prototype): bit.ly/3tPuTub
❏ Do a trial run. Run through your prototype. Look for mistakes. Make sure the Interviewer and the Decider see it. (p. 189)
❏ Finish up the prototype.
- I did some trial runs myself and passed it off to family for a quick test. I found a few mistakes and fixed them for tomorrow’s test.
Throughout the Day
❏ Write interview script. The Interviewer prepares for Friday’s test by writing a script. (p. 188)
- Finished yesterday.
❏ Remind customers to show up for Friday’s test. Email is good, phone call is better.
- Emailed a reminder.
❏ Buy gift cards for customers. We usually use $100 gift cards.
- I’m skipping this part :). Luckily I have some kind testers :).
Tomorrow: The Test
I have 3 user tests tomorrow, 2 Saturday, and 1 Sunday. No matter what happens, it’s been an awesome week and we’ll learn a ton from our participants.
